Waste Reduction Goal

The Town of Plainville has set a goal to reduce it's solid waste by 3% in the next year. Plainville is committed to managing waste responsibly and sustainably by implementing strategies that benefit both the environment and the community. 

Our waste reduction goals include:

  1. Expanding Food Waste Diversion 
    We will do this by offering backyard compost bins and kitchen scrap buckets at a reduced rate and providing support and education to use them. We are also providing the contact information on our website of the two largest commercial composting companies that offer curbside pickup. By doing this the residents are reducing their waste up to 25%, diverted organic waste from the landfills, and turned their waste into a valuable resource. 
  2. Enforce our Waste Bans
    Plainville is committed to reducing items that could be reused into going into our trash bin. We do this by educating the residents about the Waste Bans. We will be utilizing Recycle Smart's IQ Kit in the near future to show residents how their recycling skills are progressing. 
  3. Keeping Residents Informed
    Educating residents about recycling guidelines, composting options, and waste reduction programs is a top priority. Well-informed residents play a crucial role in achieving our waste reduction goals. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for weekly tips. 
  4. Working with the Town’s Hauler: E.L. Harvey
    Collaborating with E.L. Harvey, our waste hauler, ensures smooth operation of recycling and trash collection services while exploring opportunities to further improve efficiency and sustainability.
  5. Collaborating with Nearby Towns
    Partnering with neighboring communities helps share resources, ideas, and strategies, fostering regional solutions for waste management and sustainability. We have already partnered with North Attleboro to expand our yard waste disposal, and we plan on continuing this trend. 
  6. Promoting Best Practices
    Encouraging best practices in waste reduction, recycling, and composting helps residents and businesses contribute to a cleaner, greener Plainville
