The "Town Forest" and the Water Treatment Plant

Town of Plainville Posted on December 03, 2025

2025.12.2_Plainville WTP Construction ExtentWe’ve seen a few concerns circulating about the Water Treatment Plant project and the recent removal of trees near the “Town Forest” sign on George Street. I’d like to offer a quick clarification so everyone has the full story.
The sign marked “Town Forest” was indeed on Town-owned land, but not on conservation land. In fact, there is no conservation land along George Street itself. We believe the sign was installed years ago simply to give people a general sense of where the conservation area is located, not to define its actual boundaries.
Because the sign was understandably creating some confusion, we’ve temporarily removed it. It will be restored, refinished, and, once the Water Treatment Plant is complete, reinstalled farther down George Street with a map attached so a passersby could see exactly where the conservation land begins and ends.
I’m also posting a map here that shows the parcels in question, including the Water Department property and the true conservation land boundaries. I hope this helps clear up any misunderstandings. And as always, if something seems off or raises a question, Town Hall is just a phone call away; we’re always happy to walk residents through the details before misconceptions take on a life of their own online.
Once construction wraps up, the Town will landscape the area and plant arborvitaes to improve aesthetics and screening along George Street.
Thank you for your patience as we make these much-needed upgrades to our water system.
