Town of Plainville – Speed Limit Survey
Resident Input on Safer Speeds in Neighborhoods and Thickly Settled Areas
Town Meeting recently adopted Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 90, Sections 17C and 18B, giving the Town the ability to lower speed limits on certain local roads. Specifically:
- Section 17C allows for a default speed limit of 25 MPH in thickly settled or business districts.
- Section 18B allows for the creation of “Safety Zones” with a speed limit of 20 MPH, where pedestrian or vehicular safety is a concern (e.g., near schools, parks, or senior housing).
We are seeking your input on areas in Town where you believe these new speed limits should be considered. Your feedback will help the Select Board and Public Safety officials identify priority locations for traffic calming and safety improvements.
