Short-Term Rental Guidance for 2026 World Cup Visitors and Residents
As excitement builds for the 2026 FIFA World Cup events in Foxborough, the Town of Plainville has received several inquiries from residents about whether short-term rentals—such as Airbnb™, VRBO, or similar platforms—are permitted within residentially zoned homes or condominiums. They are NOT.
We understand why residents may wish to participate in these opportunities, and we appreciate the proactive questions. However, under the Town of Plainville Zoning Bylaws, short-term rentals fall under the classification of a “Tourist Home,” which is not a permitted use in residential zoning districts. This means that such rentals are not allowed at this time. Additionally, the Select Board lacks the legal authority to issue temporary exemptions or permits for this purpose.
Residents seeking more information may refer to §500-33 of the Town Zoning Bylaws for the applicable provisions.
We thank everyone for their understanding and cooperation as we work to ensure clarity, consistency, and compliance with local regulations. If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact the Town Administrator’s Office or the Building Department.
